Hi Emily!! I love your art style soo much, and honestly your work has motivated to try out portraits, finally! But everytime I try it, it's either too dull or isn't like the human skin colour at all! So, I was wondering if you could make a video on your colour mixing process and how you manage to create such a smooth blend between values.....it would be very helpful indeed! If I'm really gonna be honest, this didn't really help with nothing. You just kinda did a draw with me, and for someone like me who couldn't even see what you were drawing half way just kinda annoyed me so please next time when starting to draw please use like a pencil

I'm the other way around. My first gouache was Daler Rowney Designer's Gouache then segued to Holbein. Both were wonderful but I really didn't want to use them for some of my light journaling which was why I got the Himi Miya set. Haven't really regretted that decision. It's a nice paint for what it is and I've heard some say it reminded them of poster paints but I haven't used those so I'm not sure about it. Let me sneak to a different brand now. Just wanted to ask if you've tried Shinhan Professional Gouache paints before? I personally love it. I opted on going for a limited palette and pretty happy with it so far. Please do try it as it does boast a good number of lightfast pigments and are honestly quite lovely.

Does it matter if I have super cheap gouache? Is it worth still giving it a go? I'm used to acrylics and (currently) suck at watercolour so I feel like it's a happy medium for what I want to achieve with a certain project but don't have much money lol

What pencils do you use for the base sketch? I like how it blends in with the paints and I’ve been looking for something like that!

Rly nice work! Love the color deconstruction, the underdrawings, the expressions of the subjects. Neat idea using watercolor pencil and washing it over a bit. It's a little heavy on the advertising tho. 5 straight minutes of plugging things directly, and the rest of the video the audio is just repeating how great the brushes are. It's cool you designed them, but at some point u need to just let them speak for themselves and maybe talk more about the art.

You should do the top half a glaze chart! Colors can look different depending on which one goes down first, so it's great to have two spots. I actually did that for my old palette, but in the standard rectangular format. However, I love your layout, so I'll try it with my new palette - then i can have both the mixes and glaze chart on one sheet! Love your work ❤

8:53 its because if you down your amazing art, it make it seem like being a good artist is extremely unreachable to your viwers if they see even amazing artists saying that their art is crap (to their standards) so we are like "If thats crap, then whats good or even amazing art to you? And if you as an artist think thats crap then what is wrong with our eyes?"

Hope you don't mind a question! I normally paint with oil, so when I paint in a sketchbook (such as a moleskin) I gesso the pages. I'm interested in trying gouache. Do you gesso pages for gouache in a sketchbook?

How do you keep your gouache in this palette and prevent it from drying out while not molding? Also, do you use a medium with your gouache?

You can use the markers on top of the white eyebrow to darken them

Great work! I’m considering timing some of my portrait sessions too because I paint really SLOW! I think it’s because painting is out of my comfort zone. I enjoyed the video…thank you for sharing! ❤️❤️❤️

You are already producing extremely pleasing and well rendered art at a fast pace! Painting in itself will always be inherently “slow”. So take comfort in the fact that It’s less about what we can achieve in a set time, and more that we set time aside to enjoy it. As far as playful experimentation goes, perhaps treating timed paintings as gesture drawings will help with the speed aspect? Reducing what is required to deliver the most captivating elements will show you what you truly find important to convey. A “What would I grab in a fire?” approach. If you focus on the most vital information to make it read clearly, you’ll find just how much you can actually get away with. It’s very relaxing and liberating! So have fun and keep playing! You’re an inspiration to many and we are all thankful you share your skill with the world!

I am a watercolor painter. I have not yet tried gouache. Since it is a water-based medium I would like to try using both. Because you can see the brushstrokes gouache seems more like oil paint. I need to experiment. Thank you for sharing your experiments with using gouache.😊
